Problem

Analysis on closing a swing check valve during a rapid blow down of an upstream pipeline rupture.

Solution ANSYS CFX was used to simulate an initial high gas pressure, including mass and moment of inertia of the clapper under earth gravity condition.

Result

The analysis was complete in a couple of hours where previous technology wasn’t possible to run or extremely long. Results have been validated within 5% of accuracy.

 

We are today able to deal with customer order of extremely large size and very high pressure valve that could not be slam tested, and using this simulation, we can now predict with our customer different failure scenario if our valve will protect human being and installation.
